Who doesn’t want to add a little color to their jewelry, or maybe your own patterns and images? This workshop focuses on Deb's technique for drawing on metal with colored pencils. Learn to add color and excitement to your work with her special technique. Deb will also cover riveting techniques, and discuss design considerations and how to layer and combine metals. Deb's teaching style 

In this 3-day workshop you can expect to finish at least one pendant and several sample pieces. Fabrication techniques will be covered as time allows.


***An optional Cuttlebone Casting session will be held directly prior to this workshop for anyone interested in casting a unique workpiece to draw on for this workshop.

MATERIALS & TOOLS

Please bring your metalsmithing toolbox including the following:

  • Prismacolor Premier Soft Core Pencils; they must be “Premier Soft Core” because
    these are the wax-based pigment. 

  • 3x6" piece of 22ga copper

  • 3x6" piece of 22ga brass or sterling silver (for pins, pendants, earrings–optional) 

  • X-acto knife and blades

  • Jeweler's Saw frame

  • Saw blades #4/0

  • Lubricant for saw blades

  • Needle Files

  • 1 sheet 80 grit Sandpaper

  • Pliers (Round/Flat/etc.)

  • Ultra flush cutters

  • Tweezers

  • Magnifying glasses or Optivisor (if needed)

  • Half Round file #2 Swiss file (6” or 8”, not a needle file)

  • Chain Nose Pliers

  • Rivet Hammer

  • Non-marring hammer (delron, rawhide, etc.)

  • Steel Burnisher

  • Center Punch

  • Sketch pad

  • Pencil

  • Scissors

  • Used (heavily used is best) tooth brushes and a soft cloth such as t-shirt fabric

  • DJS cannot issue a credit or refund as all tuition received goes toward travel expenses, lodging, workshop materials and commitment to the instructor.
