Learn the basics on how to connect metals and found objects together using wire, tubing, and a little bit of know-how. This workshop will cover standard wire rivets, tube rivets, and hidden rivets while also providing participants with ample time to practice skills. Your instructor will provide the following kit consisting of: 3" each of 16ga brass wire and 16ga copper wire; copper tubing and drill bits. Students are responsible for bringing the remaining materials and tools listed below.

 

There is no prerequisite for this workshop, however, students must be proficient in cutting out metal shapes with a jeweler's saw frame.
 

MATERIALS & TOOLS 

Bring your Metalsmithing toolbox, including the following items: 

  • Copper, brass, and/or aluminum shapes/blanks (available through FDJ TOOLS, Cool Tools ,
    ImpressArt , Twisted Turtle Studios )

  • Jeweler’s ruler (6-inch)

  • Flush-cut Wire Cutters (Rio Grande #111273 (Xuron), #111291 (Lindstrom ), or #113554 (Lindstrom EDGE); or what you have)

  • 220/240, 320, 400, 600 grit sanding sticks (bring what you have from Metals 1)

  • Center punch

  • Beeswax/Saw blade lube ( BurLife )

  • N95, KN95 or P95 face mask

  • Safety glasses

  • Dedeco Silicone Polishing Wheel Assortment (Rio Grande #332579) and 1/16" screw mandrels (Rio Grande #333105) (bring what you have from Metals 1)
