Learn to fabricate delicate and playful cuff bracelets from a variety of shapes of wire stock. Participants will learn to tack-solder wires together, allowing them to twist wires into interesting designs before forging them into cuffs. This quick project is sure to impress, and the techniques can be applied to create all sorts of jewelry embellishments.

 

MATERIALS & TOOLS

Bring your Metalsmithing toolbox, including the following items: 

  • 1 foot or more brass, copper, or silver wires of choice between 8 –16 gauges (round, half-round, square, triangle and/or pattered wire recommended. Rio Grande and Santa Fe Jewelers Supply sells a variety of shapes and gauges). *A small selection of wires will be available for purchase*
  • Needle file assortment
  • Jeweler’s Saw frame
  • 2/0 saw blades and wax/blade lube
  • 2 pairs of flat or chain nose pliers
  • Silver Wire Solder in Medium and Easy
  • 1 Black Silicone Abrasive Flat Edge Wheel (Dedeco or similar) 
  • 1 Black Silicone Abrasive Knife Edge wheel (Dedeco or similar)
  • 2 Mandrels for abrasive wheels
  • 1 pkg each 3/4" Red and Blue Radial Bristle Disks and 1/16" screw mandrels
  • Protective eyewear
  • N95 or P95 face mask or particulate respirator 

Optional Items: 

  • Brass Texture Plates
  • Nylon or rawhide mallet (for shaping bangles)
  • 1 or more design stamp(s) of choice that will fit on 10 ga. surface
  • 4oz or 8oz ball pein hammer (for stamping)
  • Easy-Flo for copper, brass, bronze
